Same Judicial District as Clarksville

Marks, Shell & Maness is in Clarksville, at 233 Dunbar Cave Road, Suite A. Robertson County is part of the same 19th Judicial District as Montgomery County. That means the Circuit and Chancery judges who serve Clarksville also serve Springfield, and the district’s electronic filing rules apply to Chancery and Circuit court filings in both counties. For clients, this is a real advantage of working with a Clarksville firm: the court procedures are familiar, even though the building and the clerks are different.

Choosing the Right Court

One of the first questions in any Tennessee lawsuit is where to file it. In Robertson County, smaller money claims may belong in General Sessions Court, which has a dollar limit on civil warrants. Larger claims, and cases that require remedies a General Sessions judge cannot give, are filed in Circuit or Chancery Court. Probate, divorce and guardianship go to Chancery Court. Filing in the wrong place can cost time and money, so we look at the claim, the amount and the relief you want before choosing.
